5 quick tips for fantastic fall curb appeal

Whether your celebrating the changing of the seasons, or getting the house ready for the holidays, here are a few quick tips that may generate some inspiration for getting that fall curb appeal on point and ready to rock for that last few months of the year!

As anyone in real estate will tell you, first impressions are extremely important, and it all begins with your home’s exterior. Whether you’re wanting to spruce up your home due to the changing season, for guests who will be visiting for the holidays, or if you’re ready to list your home for sale, these tips will help you achieve great fall curb appeal.

Fall is a great time to sell your home, but what should you do when all the bright foliage and colors of spring and summer are slowly fading? Here are a couple of tips to get your fall curb appeal in shape and, if you’re putting your home on the market, catch the eyes of every potential buyer this season.

Clean up the exterior

It’s always important to keep up with the exterior of your home, but we recommend pressure washing it at least twice per year. Make sure to wash your windows, screens, as well as clear out your gutters, and make any necessary shutter repairs and painting to keep everything in great shape.

Update your landscaping

Clear your landscaping of any dead plants and leaves and consider adding some fresh mulch, new seasonal plants for a splash of color, and patching up any brown grass spots.

Add outdoor lighting

As the days get shorter, creating an environment with cozy glowing lights will help brighten your exterior, even at night. It also becomes increasingly important to provide safe pathways to your front door, for yourself and/or potential homebuyers. We suggest using decorative lights to illuminate walkways, and install flood lights or lanterns to help brighten entrance areas.

Keep decorations minimal

Make your home a little more inviting with subtle fall décor. Add pretty wreaths or pots of flowers/plants. To really get in the fall spirit, a bench with seasonal pillows and blankets, even a pumpkin or two, will create a welcoming exterior without going overboard. For home sellers, the Halloween decorations should probably be saved for next year, unless your particular street/neighborhood is known for its holiday spirit!

Showcase your front door

If your fall curb appeal budget is limited, sprucing up your front door is a small, but effective way to make your home’s exterior shine. Consider giving your front door a fresh coat of paint, potentially choosing a fall color, then update your house numbers, or add some visual interest by framing your door with a simple wreath of fall foliage.
